Due to the remarkable raise and advancement of technology, lots of large companies are moving forward to digitalize and virtualize how they do business internally and externally, such as virtual teams. Moreover, one of the virtual team advantages is the ability for a company to create the dream team without boundaries as it eliminates the element of desistance, core knowledge and skills limitation. With all these wonderful components there are many issues and might have a large negative impact to the whole process of creating a virtual team and working as and within a virtual team. These concerns can be outlined as the following:

  • Communication
  • Trust
  • Productivity

Questions: (the answer should be between 600 to 800 words)

  1. Define each negative factor and explain why it is an issue.
  2. Outline 2 solutions for each of the presented issues.

Issues and solutions are as follows:

Communication: Communication is the major tool in the effective execution of a team project. Different time zone, cultural differences, and unfamiliarity and many such factors are the reasons that can create obstacles in the way of effective communication in virtual team communication.

Solutions:

  1. Cultural understanding and respecting diversity
  2. Free flow of communication between the team members.

Trust: Trust act as a base for effective planning, execution, and accomplishment of the virtual team project. Trust among the team members is necessary for giving responsibilities and establishing the authority of each member. Trust and teams work together and when trust is affected by the judgment, actions, and behavior, teamwork will also get affected.

Solutions:

  1. Frequent meetings of the team members must be conducted by the manager so that team members can communicate and express their feelings towards each other.
  2. The manager must create a feeling of trust and allow an effective exchange of thoughts among the members.

Productivity: There are many reasons by which productivity can be an issue in a virtual team project accomplishment. the productivity can be affected due to lack of proper understanding, lack of clarity and guidelines. another reason includes difficulty in delegation and inability to ask for the clarity of the procedure.

Solutions:

  1. written guidelines must be given to all the team members of a virtual team to avoid any confusion and unclarity in execution.
  2. performance appraisal process must be implemented by the manager of the team to check the performance and productivity of each team member
