How do you believe you have grown as a writer this semester? Explain using narration, description, compare and contrast, or argument. Give support of your assertions using some of the examples from the class.
In this semester, I feel much more confident at the time of writing any descriptive essay or other projects. Now I am not anxious to think about writing the assignments and descriptive essays. In this semester, I have learnt the utilization of indirect speech in the writing whenever it is needed in the writing part. Previously, I did not recognize the correct verb form or the objective at the time of converting any direct speech into indirect speech. In this semester, I have learnt a lot of essential things regarding narration where forever truth is not changed in the indirect speech. On the other side, I also have learnt the utilization of compare and contrast of the author’s statement regarding any research topic which sharpens my critical thinking ability. Therefore, I believe that I have grown as a writer in the semester rather than the previous ones.
Throughout this semester, I have witnessed significant growth in my writing skills, particularly in the areas of narration and argumentation. At the beginning of the term, my narratives lacked coherence and depth, often leaving readers confused about the underlying message. However, as the weeks progressed, I learned to structure my narratives more effectively, ensuring that each paragraph seamlessly connected to the next, ultimately leading to a well-crafted story.
One notable example of my improved narrative writing is evident in the short story assignment we had. In the initial draft, my plot lacked a clear climax and resolution, leaving readers unsatisfied. Recognizing this weakness, I revisited the story and restructured it to build up tension and develop the characters more deeply. By incorporating vivid descriptions of the setting and the characters' emotions, I managed to create a more engaging narrative with a powerful impact on the readers.
Moreover, my ability to construct compelling arguments has also grown significantly throughout the semester. In the beginning, my essays tended to be one-sided and lacked strong evidence to support my claims. As I progressed in the course, I learned the importance of thorough research and critical analysis of multiple perspectives before forming my argument.
In one of the persuasive essays, we were tasked with discussing the impact of renewable energy on the environment. At first, my essay only highlighted the positive aspects of renewable energy without acknowledging potential drawbacks. However, with the guidance of the instructor and through extensive research, I was able to present a more well-rounded argument, addressing both the benefits and challenges associated with renewable energy implementation. By doing so, I strengthened my essay and demonstrated a more comprehensive understanding of the topic.
Additionally, I have learned to use the compare and contrast technique to enhance the clarity and depth of my writing. In the research paper assignment, we were required to compare different economic models. Initially, my comparison was too superficial, merely stating the differences between the models without providing a deeper analysis. After feedback from my peers and the instructor, I improved my essay by elaborating on the implications of these differences and how they affected real-world economic scenarios. This refinement allowed me to create a more informative and insightful piece of writing.
Overall, I can confidently say that my writing has evolved significantly this semester. Through diligent practice, constructive feedback, and learning from exemplary examples, I have become a more skilled and versatile writer, capable of crafting engaging narratives, compelling arguments, and well-structured comparisons. The improvement in my writing is a testament to the dedication and effort I put into honing my writing skills throughout the course.
