Answer #1

Ans.) Option B : 0.4

Explanation:

According to Hardy-Weinberg principle:

p2 + 2pq + q2 = 1 and p + q = 1

Where,

p2: denotes "frequency of individual with red flower and genotype RR"

2pq : denotes " frequency of individual with pink flower and genotype Rr"

q2: denotes "frequency of individual with white flower and genotype rr"

p : denotes "frequency of dominant R gene in the population"

q : denotes "frequency of recessive gene in the popuation"

Given that:

Total population size = 10,000

No. of individual with red phenotype (RR) = 6500

So, p2 (frequency of individual with red flower and genotype RR) = 6500/ 10,000 = 0.65

No. of individual with pink phenotype (Rr) = 2000

So, 2pq (frequency of individual with pink flower and genotype Rr) = 2000/ 10,000 = 0.20

No. of individual with white flower phenotype (rr) = 1500

q2 (frequency of individual with white flower and genotype rr) = 1500/ 10,000 = 0.15

So, frequency of r allele = p = = = 0.3872 (approx . 0.4)

The occurrence of the NN blood group genotype in the US population is 1 in 400, consider NN as the homozygous recessive genotype in this population. You sample 1,000 individuals from a large population for the MN blood group, which can easily be measured since co-dominance is involved (i.e., you can detect the heterozygotes). They are typed accordingly: BLOOD TYPE GENOTYPE NUMBER OF INDIVIDUALS RESULTING FREQUENCY M MM 490 0.49 MN MN 420 0.42 N NN 90 0.09 Using the...

INCOMPLETE DOMINANCE A red snapdragon is crossed with a white snapdragon. The resultant offspring gives pink progeny. 9. What are the genotypes of parents and offspring? 10. You have a pink snapdragon and a white snapdragon. You want to establish a stock of pure breeding red flowers. Outline a breeding program that will allow you to do this without buying more snapdragons.

II. MONOHYBRID PROBLEMS WITH INCOMPLETE DOMINANCE 8. Petunia flower color is governed by two alleles, but neither allele is truly dominant over the other. Petunias with the genotype R R are red-flowered, those that are heterozygous (R W ) are pink, while those with the (WW ) genotype have white flowers. This is an example of incomplete dominance. a.
