Psychosexual Stages by Sigmund Freud:
Sigmund Freud observed that how does personality develops? In his observation he found that children travels through 5 sexual stages. That travelling experiences build up his personality in adult hood. If children successfully completed their 5 sexual stages then they enjoys their personality. Otherwise they faces problems called Fixations.
5 Psychosexual Stages:
Oral stage:
This stage lasts till 1 year from the birth time. Erogenous zone ( a place in children body which seeks pleasure or Libido) of the child in this stage is mouth. That’s why children always tries to taste or suck anything they have. If erogenous zone is not satisfied in this stage results smoking, drinking , nail biting etc in their entire life. These problems are called as Fixations.
Anal Stage:
This stage lasts from 1 to 3 years in children. In this stage erogenous zone takes place in bowel and bladder. Toilet training is most important in this stage. If children successfully learned toilet training they will get confidence. Otherwise that results aggressive and obessive behavior.
Phallic stage:
This stage lasts from 3 to 6 years in children life. Erogenous zone in this stage takes place in Genitals.In this stage children experiences their gender charecteristics.
Boys will faces The oedipus complex problem and girls will face Electra complex problem.
Latent Period:
This stage lasts from 6 years to puberty. In this stage erogenous will be inactive. In this stage children will develop their personality interms of ego and superego. They develops their relations,communication skills and confidence.
If any fixations occurred in this stage results immatured personality.
Genital stage:
This stage lasts from puberty onwards.In this stage Libido will be activated again. Erogenous zone takes place in genitals.
In this stage adults will be attracted to opposite sex.They tries to fulfill their sexual desire from opposite sex.
