In 200 Words, Please compare and contrast verbal and nonverbal messages.
Verbal communication creates an understanding of the use of
words, sounds, and speaking to get the point of communication
across. Verbal communication makes effective use of tone of voice,
amplitude, and its pitch to create the necessary bridge between the
message and the process of communication. Nonverbal communication,
on the other hand, takes a distinct approach. It includes any part
of the communication that is not expressed verbally such as action,
pointing, body language and movement, facial expressions, gestures
and even the timing of our message are all components of nonverbal
communication. The main difference between verbal and nonverbal
communication, therefore, takes into account the nature of
interaction being utilized and if the communication can be broken
down based on the understanding of words. Nonverbal communication
helps translate the emotions and feelings of the sender while
verbal communication is necessary for them to get the meaning of
their communication or message to the receiver. There is also the
difference of area effect, what this means is that for verbal
communication to work, we can make use of letter or a call to
conduct the process successfully, but for nonverbal communication
to work, both the sender and receiver must be engaged in a direct
communication process.
