The smallest size of an object that can be seen by a microscope is 0.001 mm.

The width of double helical DNA is 2 nm.

There is a great difference in the minimum size of object that can be seen by a microscope and that of diameter of DNA. Because of this great distance, we cannot see double helical structure of DNA by using microscope.
