When we experimentally hop a P-element out of a mutation caused by a P-element inserted in the coding region of a gene, we sometimes regain gene function, although, as I explained in class this is very unlikely. What is or are possible reasons gene function is regained?
When we remove the P element accidentally we might regain the gene function because the reading frame now reverts back to the original form and the genome once again functions as usual. So there is a possibility that with the removal of the P element the gene may revert back to its original composition. Also if the P element hops to a non coding region it would not affect the gene expression at all because of the splicing mechanism which the RNA undergoes before the translation of the protein in which all the non coding genes are removed therefore it is possible that the P element does not interfere the gene function.
