ne of my current job is working as Wheeled Mechanic for the National Guard. I have never worked as a mechanic in my civilian life but I do like working on fixing things around the house. As a result, I decided to work as a mechanic for the Army National Guard.   

The job characteristic model has five different area. In reference to my job as wheeled mechanic and applying the skill variety, which is the skills and activities needed for the job. Also, it’s different talents that needs to be develop for the job. As a wheeled mechanic, there are different talents and skills needed for the job. i will said being hands on oriented. I like working with my hands and I do not mind getting dirty which is needed for the job. In addition, i like working with different tools which is necessary as a mechanic.

Task identity: as a mechanic the tasks are straight to the point and I am required to complete them from the beginning to the end. I find that process better. Otherwise , I have to relay on someone doing part of the job which can be very complicated. i worked as part of a team which it can be difficult at time since each person has different work ethics. Some people like to cut corners to complete their work. The one thing, I am thankful for, each person who does work on a vehicle has to sign the vehicle card. I like that system because it makes people responsible for their work in case something goes wrong.

Task significance, I feel this one goes hand in hand with task identity. I will say while we are at home port our job still very important. Part of our monthly mission is to attend trainings at Fort Dix, our vehicle are used to transport the soldiers from our unit to the other base. It’s very important for the vehicles to be maintained before each trip. Many times, our vehicles would broke down on the road which caused so much collateral damage. In addition, people can get hurt if vehicles are not serviced properly. Now that my unit is deployed, it is crucial that our vehicles be service on time and properly. Those vehicles will be use as part of transportation when the soldiers are patrolling the area. Which means, my unit is responsible for keeping the vehicles running, as it will be very dangerous that one of the vehicle brake down when the soldiers are patrolling the areas.

Autonomy; part of this job is that we are able to work independently but as team. For example, on a drilling weekend, the supervisor would tell us, what needs to be done and then we divided the task in between how many people we have. The supervisor is not on our backs all day asking if we completed the job. However, the supervisor will ask us at the end what was completed and checked to ensure it was completed properly. The supervisor tends to check more on the newest people as he/she does not know weather that person can complete the job without supervision.

Feedback; before joining the National Guard, I was very mechanical incline. I had learned many new things. Now I work in different vehicles that I had never worked before. In addition, I have the opportunity to drive different vehicles, I was also able to obtain a Class A license which I’m very thankful because I did not have to pay for.

I enjoyed working as National Guard Mechanic. At time, the job can be very frustrating with upper chain of command. Many times, higher up, will wait until last minute to ask to complete a task. Otherwise, I do enjoy and love what I had accomplished from my job.

By reading the given passages it is observed that the author is not able enjoy the role and the job which he host. He pointed some reasons for the dissatisfaction of the job, if they were corrected and rectified, it will be better to him. The major problem is that assignment of tasks which are not timely manner, assigning a task unexpectedly, and asking for the result in short span of time, are the most identified issues in the given case.

If the work is planned, and pre-defined manner, it will be easy, simple and joyful work to the people. If the work is given in planned way, then the workers can design their day in a specific manner, and may resulted successful completion of the task. Otherwise, the workers' satisfaction comes down, moral becomes weak, and finally resulted in high attrition in the firm.
