Focus on the broader topic of how complex systems evolve in general using animal evolution as an example. Do you think plants have used similar evolutionary pathways to develop their multicellular complexity? How would you begin to explore that?

It is with the phenomenon of natural selection that evolution leads to production of complex organisms.Also it has been suggested that complexity arises when selection is either weak or is absent totally.There was a  path that lead to complex system being evolved. Presence of ecosystems also has a profound effect on evolution of complex organisms as organisms which failed to survive in those ecosystems adapted new ways to fit into them.In each generation, species varied in their traits. Some variations led to an increased survival rate in animals and allowed them to produce offsprings with advantageous variations that eventually got “selected.” With emergence of these new variations anatomical changes took place producing complex structures.

Plants and animals are known to share a common eukaryote ancestor but none of them evolved from each other.While plants evolved from single-celled eukaryotes,animals were more closely related to fungi.It is believed that different evolutionary pathways tend to  lead plants and animals to the same road.
