Answer #1

The Articles of Confederation came into force on March 1, 1781, after being ratified by all 13 states. A guiding principle of the Articles was to preserve the independence and sovereignty of the states. The Articles created a loose confederation of sovereign states and a weak central government, leaving most of the power with the state governments. The need for a stronger Federal government soon became apparent and eventually led to the Constitutional Convention in 1787. Articles of Confederation did not give the federal government enough power. Under them, there was no president and the country was run only by Congress. Without a centralized power, there was no national currency, few national laws, and no national army. This system proved ineffective, so the Constitution was created. Under the Constitution, stability and unity increased in the new nation.
