  • Quorum sensing is a phenomenon by which bacteria communicates with each other in a colony or between colonies.
  • Gingivitis is a Periodontal pathogen which causes dental plaques.
  • There are more than 500 species in the oral cavity including Fusobacterium, Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella etc. T
  • study states that atleast 3 genera of bacterial isolates were able to stimulate light production and about 170 were able to respond to the autoinducer AI-2.
  • The signal induces the growth of the bacteria which eventually increases severity of infection.
