A diploid organism is heterozygous for genes A, B, and D; A and B are linked, gene D is on a different chromsome. Draw the chromosomes containing the genes as they appear in prophase of normal Meiosis I. For consistency, lets agree that a single line represents a chromatid (Double strand DNA). Make your chromosome at least 5 cm long. Show all chromatids and all alleles of the 3 genes and label tetrads, centromeres, sister chromatids, and homologous chromosomes.

Homologous chromosomes are those which have same genes at same locus. The alleles may or may not be same.

They exchange genetic material during prophase 1 of meiosis 1 in a process called as crossing over. It results in the formation of Recombinant chromosomes.

The identical chromatids in the same chromosome are called as sister chromatids.

Centromere is the point of attachment of two arms of the chromosome which also holds the sister chromatids together.
