Serotonin is synthesized from amino acid tryptophan

Rate of synthesis bod serotonin depends upon the dietary uptake of tryptophan. Low serotonin levels are associated with depression, anxiety and regulation of mood, hence dietary factors which are associated with low tryptophan can be associated with this disorders
