Answer #1

Motivation is basically the needs, requirements and wants which drive an individual and makes him or her to work hard to achieve the same. A motivating factor is one which acts as a catalyst for a person’s efforts and performance and paves the way for success.

The different views and theories about motivating employees at work are as follows:

  • Maslow’s need hierarchy: Maslow has divided the human needs in 5 different groups and arranged them in a hierarchy. Once the lower level of need gets attained, the individual aspires for the higher need.
  • Herzberg’s motivation hygiene theory: Herzberg divided the different factors which cause motivation in an individual in 2 groups – hygiene factors , the absence of which may cause job dissatisfaction in employees and motivation factors which help in enhancing the job satisfaction of an employee
