Protection motivation theory concept states that people tend to protect themselves during these 4 factors.

1. Perceived severity of a threatening event

2. The perceived probability of the occurrence or vulnerability

3. The efficacy of the recommended preventive behaviour

4. The perceived efficacy

It was proposed by Rogers in 1975. It involves any threat for which there is an effective recommended response that can be carried out by the individual.

Threat appraisal: Refers to the trauma caused to a child due to an event or a threat and how a child perceives it towards the commitments, values and goals.

Coping Appraisal: Referes to the ability to cope with the threat and avoid it in the future.
