Socrates in reply to his accusers suggested that his life is grounded on virtues and he would continue to enlighten the youngsters of Athens from their ignorance. This would mean that he was not afraid of facing death but he was only worried about a younger generation that is not aware of the true value of philosophy and ethics. Socrates voluntarily chose death because he told the jury that he would die many times if he had to stand for virtue and wouldn’t follow the ignorant way of the world.
