The fish heart has two chambers, an atrium and a ventricle.The blood is then pumped into the ventricle.From the ventricle the blood passes onto the gills where it becomes oxygenated and then circulates through the fish before beginning the circuit again.

Amphibians have a three-chambered heart two atria and one ventricle.The mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood is kept to a minimum due to the timing of the contractions between the atria.This is called an incomplete double circulatory system.

Birds, like mammals, have a 4-chambered heart (2 atria & 2 ventricles),with complete separation of oxygenated and de-oxygenated blood. The right ventricle pumps blood to the lungs, while the left ventricle pumps blood to the rest of the body
