Four rII deletions, A-D, are crossed against one another. Of the six crosses, three yielded recombinants: 1) A X B, (2) A X C, and (3) C X D. The remaining three – (4) A X D, (5) B X C, and (6) B X D – yielded no recombinants. a. What is the relation between these deletions? b. An rII mutation recombines with A, B, and C but not D. Where is this mutation located?

Answer #1

In R 2 mutants deletions are present in different locations in a gene. If two mutants can complement each other then the mutation is present in different locations in the gene.

A. AB, AC, CD yielded recombinant, this means that A, B and C have deletions in different Regions, so they can recombine. The overlapping deletions cannot combine to give recombinant.

B. The mutation D has deletion within then deletions of A, B and C.

There are four persons A, B, C, D in a room, and one of them is a foreign spy. Other three participants share a secret using the Shamir’s threshold scheme with secret in Zp, where p = 11. Any two of them can recover the secret. The foreign spy chooses his share randomly. As a result, these four participants have the following four shares: A : (1, 7), B : (3, 0), C : (5, 10), D : (7, 9)....
