1: Skin serves to prevent the water loss and thereby help regulate the body temperature. It also protects the blood vessels. Cardiovascular system and integumentary system work together to maintain the body temperature. Under lower temperature conditions, sweat glands release no sweat and constriction of blood vessels near the skin reduces the blood supply to skin. This makes muscles to contract and there is shivering. Under higher temperature conditions, blood vessels dilate to supply more blood to skin surface for cooling. Release of sweat makes the skin surface cooler.
