I was working on a project at my workplace. In my office, projects are allotted on team basis where each team member is given a substantial job. Every team member is required to take ownership of his or her job. There was a member, Berry who had a habit of procrastinating work, because of which the entire project was suffering. I went to confront him regarding the same, but instead of feeling responsive, the person started blame-gaming and a conflict happened in the team.
In my views, the difference in mindset of the entire team and Berry, eventually led to the conflict. Also I feel that the project leader, Mark was not able to perform his job well, because of which Berry lacked the ownership instinct.
People Capability Maturity Model based assessment method could be used to solve the conflict and manage the team effectively. People CMM will be used to improve the overall capability of the team. Currently my team is in maturity level 1, there is inconsistent management. To go to maturity level 2, Mark needs to clarify the roles and responsibilities of each member in the team and handle the people management effectively. Regular feedback sessions will help the members work on their weaknesses and the overall productivity of the team will increase substantially.
