I think it is difficult to talk about race and diversity in our workplaces and institutions today due to many factors. Some of them are miscommunication, absence of cultural education, false stereotypes, and lack of diversity experience. It does not have to be difficult. Even if persons do not agree, they can be educated and respectful of others, their opinions and their life choices/religions. Language barriers cause a lot of issues and if you have not been taught of other races and religions, you will be ignorant about them. Also, being taught that there is a place with people who speak another language is not the same as meeting one or some and interacting with them. There are some people that have only heard stereotypes and/or seen what has been portrayed in television/media of other races/religions. Depending what they are seeing, they are forming opinions. The images and messages do not represent all, but it provides the only the impression the person has and will remember if ever interacting. People seem to be easily offended. They tend to listen to reply and not understand. You do not have to agree with the principles or ways of another religion. Just because someone does not agree with you, does not mean they are against you.

I disagree with the assessment. I think we as humans have innate ability to cooperate and work together in harmony with people from a diverse background. Most of the people just don't get the opportunity. Moreover, even if a conflict arises due to cultural diversity, it can be resolved amicably. The whole concept depends on the training of the employees and the development of their abilities for group cohesiveness. Because underneath the differences, the characteristics of people and the positive aspects of their personalities are same and it is these similarities which help people from different backgrounds connect and work together towards a shared goal.
