The input to the control unit is the 7-bit opcode field from the instruction The outputs of the control unit consist of two 1-bit signals that are used to control multiplexors (ALUSrc and MemtoReg), three signals for controlling reads and writes in the register file and data memory (RegWrite, MemRead, and Mem Write), a 1-bit signal used in determining whether to possibly branch (Branch), and a 2-bit control signal for the ALU (ALUOp). An AND gate is used to combine the branch control signal and the Zero output from the ALU; the AND gate output controls the selection of the next PC. Notice that PCSrc is now a derived signal, rather than one coming directly from the control unit. Thus, we drop the signal name in subsequent figures.
For Questions 1 to 11 Questions 1 to 11 deal with the processor datapath and control shown in Figure 4.17 of the textbook, executing the following instruction, located at address Ox0000000000204014 in the instruction memory: sd x7, 0x18(x24)

Modify the circuit to support a MFCC instruction. MFCC Rd instruction: Move From Condition Codes MFCC copies into the four rightmost bits of Rd the values of the ALU signals Carry (C), Overflow (O), Zero (Z) and Negative (N) as they were set by the previous R- type instruction. The remaining 28 bits of Rd are set to zero. Describe the changes and additions needed for the single-cycle MIPS processor datapath and control to support this instruction. Hints: 1) MFCC...
