Answer #1

Enzyme has active site which identify by substrate and can fit to each other, like a lock and key. A lock has specific key that fit it in and open the lock.

Substrate interact with enzyme and fit on its active side with various interaction like: ion-ion, ion- dipole and Van der Waal's interaction and catalyzed the reaction and release the product and enzyme will be free without change.

1. In this reaction enzyme is catalase which present in Banana.

2. Substrate is H2O2, hydrogen peroxide.

3. After catalyzed the reaction by Catalase, hydrogen peroxide oxidized into water and O2.

Experiment:

1. Banana (Catalase) + water + H2O2 , here pH will be 7 (neutral) and after adding H2O2, it will be dissociates into water and O2.

2 H2O2 + H2O to 3 H2O + O2

(2:1)

2.Banana (Catalase) + 1 mL HCl + 2 mL H2O2 , here pH will be <7 (acidic) and after adding H2O2, it will reacts with HCl and form hypochlorous acid and water.

2 H2O2 + HCl to HOCl + H2O + H2O2

(2:1)

3.

Banana (Catalase) + 1 mL NaOH + 2 mL H2O2 , here pH will be >7 (Basic) and after adding H2O2, it will reacts with NaOH and produce 2 mole water and O2.

2 H2O2 + NaOH to 2H2O + O2 + NaOH

(2:1)

1 of 1 Part D-A typical enzyme experiment A common enzyme studied in many introductory biology labs is catalase, which is found in high concentration in most cells, promoting the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) Hydrogen peroxide is formed as a by-product of chemical reactions and would soon kill cells if not immediately removed or broken down into its products--water and oxygen-as shown by the following equation Catalase 2 H2O, → 2 H2O + 0, You may be familiar with...
