Please point out whether each of the following statements is correct or not.

Carefully explain your reasoning!

a) In Aspartic Acid, the carboxylic group bound to the α carbon has more acidic properties than the carboxylic group that is located in the side chain.

b) The pI of Ala-Gly-Met is 6.0.

c) The peptide Ile-Ala-Pro is more hydrophilic than the peptide Gln-His-Ala.

d) The side chain of Amino Acids that make up a protein function as a buffer.

Answer #1

a) Correct

Explanation: The pKa value of the side-chain COOH = 3.9, that of α-COOH = 3.5

Lesser the pKa, the greater is the acidic nature because of pKa = -Log(Ka)

b) Correct.

Explanation: pI = (3.5 + 9)/2 = 6.25

c) Incorrect.

Explanation: The peptide Gln-His-Ala is more hydrophilic than the peptide Ile-Ala-Pro.

The chemical structures of the 20 standard amino acids at pH 7, along with their 3 and 1 letter codes, are givern in alphabetical order below. While the oxygen and nitrogen atoms of the peptide bonds may serve as a donor atom to complex a metal ion, very often the ligands for the metal come from the amino acid side chains. Takea few moments to examine the chemical structures of the different side chains. Circle the side chains that you...

Hello please please help !! Thank you!! Please and thank you soo much!!! Question Completion Status: Question 10: The genetic code consists of 64 triplets of nucleotides (called codons). Each codon (with the exception of the 3 stop codons) encodes for one of the 20 amino acids used in the synthesis of proteins. This produces some redundancy in the code as most amino acids are encoded by more than one codon. One codon, AUG serves two related functions: it signals...
