Answer #1

1. I recently encountered an elderly female lady suffering from parkinsons disease.

Different conditions that affected the patient’s ability to adapt were :

- the behaviour of the hospital staff - elderly patient needs more caring and supportive behaviour from the staff. They also need to be treated with patience.

- pleasant, calm and soothing environment helped her to adapt better

- giving her more time and attention relative to other younger patients helped her adapt better.

- involving her in the discussions regarding her condition and treatment plan also helped her to adapt better

- enrolling her in recretional group activities was also beneficial

All these measures helped to achieve a better outcome. She participated in activities like physical therapy sessions, recreational activities and cognitive sessions with improved interest and energy. She cooperated very well with the medical team regarding her treatment. This led to early recovery and a shorter hospital stay.
