Adam (with the same machine) performs tasks 1 and 2. After running a setup on the machine, he performs task 1 on every unit in a batch. Then, he runs another setup on the same machine before performing task 2 on every unit in the batch. After that, either Brad or Chloe performs task 3 on the units. Finally, Dorothee does task 4. Tasks 3 and 4 are done by the workers only so they do not require any setups.

Two-step Process Utilization: A two- used to finish a product: painting and drying. There are 5 workers and each one takes an average of 60 minutes to paint each unit. Drying takes place in an oven that can hold up to 100 units and it takes 5 minutes to load each unit. Once all the units are loaded into the oven, it takes 6 hours to dry each load. Assume that the process is capacity constrained (so the demand rate...

Alpha Assemblies produces a wide variety of products in their central Nebraska facility. Many of these products fit within a line of standard truck and trailer parts. Within this is a set of hitches that can be made in two sizes (1-1/4 and 2) and three strengths (light duty, medium duty, and heavy duty). All of the hitches in this line have "natural" finishes so no additional steps are necessary after they are cast. The machine used to cast these...

Gordon Company produces custom-made machine parts. A setup activity is required for the batches of parts that it produces. Activity output is measured using setup hours. The value-added standard (SQ) for this activity is zero. On July 1, at the beginning of the fiscal year, 15 setup hours were allowed and used per batch. The standard wage rate for setup labor is $24 per setup hour. During the first quarter of the new fiscal year, the company is planning to...

A process has two stages. In the first stage, a machine makes two components, call them type A and B. It takes 250 seconds to switch production between the component types. During that time no production occurs. When in production, each component (A or B) requires 0.6 seconds to be completed. In the second stage, the components, A and B, are assembled to make a final product, call it C. The assembly stage can combine the two components into 1...
