4.A) FIVE DIFFERENT LEADERSHIP TRAIT:

  1. Empathy:-One of the most valuable traits a human being can possess is the ability to understand people. Those who are able to understand the emotions of others are better equipped to respond to them--and subsequently develop stronger, more substantial relationships with those on their teams
  2. Awareness :-Self-awareness--as well as insight when it comes to the actions of others--is always key to making the best decisions. Having enough awareness of how employees feel, even without someone explicitly telling you, or which projects are or aren't going over well, is a tremendously valuable asset

  3. Honesty:-There's nothing more despicable than dishonesty. When someone's trust is broken, it can rarely be gained back. This is something that holds true both in our everyday lives and our professional ones as well.

  4. Decisiveness:-One of the biggest problems with society today is our inability to choose from the multitude of options surrounding us. Thus, in such a dynamic landscape, it's imperative that great leaders have enough decisiveness to carry us through

  5. Optimism:-Despite how easy it may seem, it's not easy to keep up positive energy. When things go sour, morale is the first thing to fall, but excellent leaders are always the ones who can pull it back up.

4.B) Three Classic Styles of Leadership

  1. Laissez-Faire Leadership:-This type is the largely hands-off with minimal direction and supervision from the manager to the staff. The key to using this method is having well trained and efficient directors who can work as intermediaries between you and your employees
  2. Autocratic Leadership:-This is a leadership style that has become something of a relic in today's business environment. The reason is that most employees work better without the overbearing presence of their boss around at all times.

  3. Participative Leadership:-The third approach is to find a happy medium between the above two methods. These managers back-off more to allow people to tap their creativity and think independently using their own initiative, while still maintaining enough control to guide the overall vision of teams without imposing their own vision on their decisions. In short, you're giving them a much greater lead and will need to be more trusting of decisions made by your directors.

Q.5 ) DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MANAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP:

BASIS FOR COMPARISON LEADERSHIP MANAGEMENT
Meaning Leadership is a skill of leading others by examples. Management is an art of systematically organizing and coordinating things in an efficient way.
Basis Trust Control
Emphasis on Inspiring People Managing activities
Power Influence Rule
Focus on Encouraging change Bringing stability
Strategy Proactive Reactive
Formulation of Principles and guidelines Policies and Procedures
Perspective Leadership requires good foresightedness. Management has a short range perspective.

2.A) SITUATIONAL LEADERSHIP:-

Situational leadership is a leadership style that has been developed and studied by Kenneth Blanchard and Paul Hersey. Situational leadership refers to when the leader or manager of an organization must adjust his style to fit the development level of the followers he is trying to influence. With situational leadership, it is up to the leader to change his style, not the follower to adapt to the leader’s style. In situational leadership, the style may change continually to meet the needs of others in the organization based on the situation.

2.B) FOUR DOMAINS OF Hersey-Blanchard Situational Leadership Theory:

  • S-1 Telling
  • S-2 Selling
  • S-3 Participating
  • S-4 Delegating.

The leadership style, itself, manifests itself as behavior related to the task and behavior as to relationship with the group. "Telling" behavior simply is a unidirectional flow of information from the leader to the group. Do this task in this manner because of [whatever] at this location, and get it finished by [whenever]. Transactional leadership techniques operate here. In the "selling" behavior, the leader attempts to convince the group of that the leader should lead by providing social and emotional support to the individual being convinced. There is two-way communication, but it is clear that the leader is leading. With "participating" behavior, the leader shares decision making with the group, making the system more democratic. There is less of an emphasis on accomplishing an objective than building human relations. The fourth type of behavior in leadership style, "delegating" is reflected by parceling out tasks to group members. The leader still is in charge but there is more of an emphasis on monitoring the ones delegated with the tasks.
