The devices, which help the patient in walking, are called ambulation devices. Cane, crutches and walkers are the most commonly used ambulation devices in the hospitals and healthcare units. There are patients who cannot walk properly without the support. These devices help these patients in providing additional support and balance while walking and standing.

While using these devices, care should be taken as the safety of the patients depends on them. It has to be made sure that these devices should be strong and should not have any dents and cracks as it may lead to breakage of device and ultimately the patient can fall.

As these devices are designed to support the patient, it should not slip. This can be prevented by covering the lower end of the device with a rubber tip. The contamination can be avoided by cleaning these devices properly after every use. They should not contain any blood stain or body fluid.
