Mrs. Ashley is a 63-year-old woman who suffered a left hemisphere CVA approximately 1 month ago. An MRI showed damage in the frontal lobe near the Sylvian fissure, including the frontal language areas and surrounding brain tissue. Mrs. Wei was born in China and spoke both English and Mandarin fluently before her stroke. She lives with her daughter and son-in-law and their two children here in town. She is currently retired, but was previously a cook at a restaurant. Prior to her stroke, she was very active in her church, as well. Presumably, you do not speak Mandarin, nor do you have access to a Mandarin speaking clinician in your area. For this case:

  1. Provide an evaluation plan for Mrs. Ashley. What test(s) you would use and how you would evaluation each language as effectively as possible.

Answer #1

Answer : problems of client in MRI report :

* damage in the frontal lobe near the Sylvian fissure, including the frontal language areas and Surrounding brain tissue.

evaluation plan for this case :

* CVA means cerebro vascular accident it is due to decreased blood circulation to the brain parts, the functioning of brain my stops.

* the evaluation tests including for CVA blood tests

* electrocardiogram

* carotid Doppler or ultrasound

* cerebral angiography.

* echo cardiography or 2d echo.

Because here the clotting of the blood may be there in the blood vessels, to know that we need to perform tests related to heart.

* because from heart only blood circulation may come to all over the organs of the body.

* blood tests like CBP in these hemoglobin levels and wbc and platelets they will do, because raised wbc leads to infection And infection some times may cause stoke..

* in brain cerebrum is the largest part of the brain.

* it having left and right hemirspheres,

* the main function of this interprit the language as here touch, emotions and reasons.

* so if it damages the language problem may arise to the clients.

* generally to measure or to evaluate the frontal lobe function some psychological tests may be used those are finger tapping test and Wisconsin card sorting test to measures the language.

* finger tapping test is a neuro psychological tests to know the or to examine the speed of motor function of client we will perform this.

* so the motor language of client we can evaluate.

* so client coordination we can evaluate here.

* Wisconsin card sorting test means here we will evaluate the ability to display the flexibility in face of changing schedule.

* here they have to arrange the cards in the correct way.

* so that we can able to know there language activity level.

So by using these tests we can evaluate the each language of stroke clients.
