Answer #1

The logic says that the high Kd value indicates that there is requirement of high amount of drug to occupy 50% of receptors, thus it indicates a weak or low binding to the receptors.

Hence based on the logic and the abouve findings , since the drug A has low Kd value , hence it will have higher binding to the receptors.

So the DRug A is more efficacious than the drug B and drug A has higher affinity for the molecular targets in the question.

Consequently the option B is the correct answer.

Question 1 (1 point) Vasoconstriction occurs when epinephrine (adrenaline) binds to the a-adrenergic receptor on vascular smooth muscle cells. One way to treat high blood pressure is to administer competitive inhibitors that bind to this receptor. The Kd for binding of epinephrine to this receptor is ~UM. Based on the measured affinity (Kd) of the following drugs for the a-adrenergic receptor, which might be good candidates for high blood pressure medication? Drug A: Kd = 0.6 M; Drug B: Kd...

Scientists at MN-Pharm Sci have identified a novel molecule with potent Mu-opioid receptor (MOR) agonist activity by using high throughput assays. Structurally, the molecule does not belong any of the known chemical classes. The affinity of the compound is 30-times higher at MORs compared to morphine with similar efficacy. The affinity of this molecule for recombinant human recombinant Kappa- and Delta-opioid receptors by 170– and 350–fold, respectively, lower than that observed at the recombinant human Mu-opioid receptors. The hydrophilic/lipophilic nature...

Question 4 (2 points) Saved The study "Transcatheter or Surgical Aortic-Valve Replacement in Intermediate-Risk Patients" was published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2016. This study compared the efficacy of two treatments for cardiovascular malfunction. Over 1,000 low-risk patients were randomly assigned to a standard treatment: a type of invasive heart surgery. Another 1,000 low-risk patients were randomly assigned to a nonstandard treatment: the use of a less invasive non-surgical catheter. Researchers compared the two treatment groups, and...
