Ans.) Chinese cultural philosophy strongly influence the Chinese way of thinking about health and health care. Nurses must have combined the information about culture with clinical observation of the patient to provide receptive care. Another way is to combine both western and Chinese values into the Chinese health care system by negotiating between the traditional values while at the same time, respecting an individual's choice.
Cultural influence sometimes may affect the discharge teaching of a care giver because the it shape us as a human being and every culture have their own belief and practice to heal a particular ailment. Hence, it definitely affects the nurse but it is the responsibility of the care giver to maintain a balance between the different cultures to provide the best possible care to the patient.
Whenever you are in doubt that how to treat a patient from different culture; the best way to is to ask few basic things such as, ask if there are any religious beliefs that you need to know about in order to respect and carry their needs. Many of them are used to living out their own subculture and they will probably know by experience how to educate you on their care. If they are unaware of their unique needs in the healthcare setting, reassure them that you are willing to adjust your care based on their values if they do become aware of any issues. Encourage them to share those needs to you as they happen to arise.
