The lower control arm on an automotive suspension system is connected to the frame by a round steel pin 16 mm in diameter. Two sides of the arm transfer loads from the frame to the arm, as sketched in Figure. How much shear force could the pin withstand if it is made of AISI 1040 cold-drawn steel and a design factor of 6 based on the yield strength in shear is deshed?
