Compassion fatigue means decrease in compassion for those in need over a period of time. It is also called secondary traumatic stress. It is common among individuals who are constant in touch of victims af any disaster, person with chronic illness , firefighters, nurses, child welfare workers etc.

Cognitive indicators are related to person’s cognition i.e. voluntary intellectual ability.like there will be

• Diminished concentration o Confusion
• Spaciness
• Loss of meaning
• Decreased self-esteem
• Preoccupation with trauma
• Trauma imagery
• Apathy
• Rigidity
• Disorientation
• Whirling thoughts
• Thoughts of self-harm or harm toward others
• Self-doubt

physical indicators include bodily changes in compassion fatigue like person will often have Sweating, Rapid heartbeat, Breathing difficulties, Aches and pains, Dizziness and Impaired immune system.

emotional indicators include negative emotions in an affected individual like Powerlessness , Anxiety, Guilt, Anger/rage, Numbness, Fear, Helplessness, Sadness, Depression, Hypersensitivity, Overwhelmed.

social indicators include negative impact on his social interaction like Withdrawn, Decreased interest in intimacy or sex, Mistrust, Isolation from friends, Impact on parenting (protectiveness, concern about
aggression), Projection of anger or blame , Intolerance and Loneliness
