nested case-control - it is defined as a variation of a case-control study in which cases and controls are are drawn from the population (nested within a cohort). among the cases and the selected controls lies the exposure of interest.

case-cohort study - in this study, the controls are randomly chosen from all the cohort participants irrespective of the disease of interest.

hence, the difference lies in the way in which controls are chosen.
