#. Principles of antimicrobial chemotherapy are :-

- Make a diagnosis : as precisely as possible ( site of infection , responsible organism , sensitivity to drugs )

- Remove barriers to cure : abscess , obstruction in the urinary or respiratory tract .

- Mechanism of actions of different groups of antibiotics

- Mechanism by which pathogens acquire and express resistance to antibiotics

- Combination therapy

- Host determinants that influence the efficacy and selection of antibiotics .

#. There are five types of antimicrobial drug groups are :-

- Antibacterial chemotherapy = use of antibacterial drugs to treat bacterial infection.

- Antifungal chemotherapy = use of antifungal drugs to treat fungal infection .

- Antiviral chemotherapy = use of antiviral drugs to treat viral infection .

- Anthelminthic chemotherapy = use of anthelmintic drugs to treat worm infestation.

- Antiprotozoal chemotherapy = use of antiprotozoal drugs to treat protozoan infection.
