I think most of the time, a brain death is good enough for the standard human because the person, or essence of the person, has ceased to exist to them. Everyone else does bring up good points about how once the brain is deemed dead, there is no coming back from that without major consequences. It is due to the complexity of the brain and all that it does. Whereas, the heart has a minor number of functions, and we know all of them, scientifically, we have yet to reach that level of knowledge about the brain. It should be handled, again, case by case. If someone is brain dead but still breathing, it is best they explain the matter all they can to the family and let them decide, if there is no POA that states otherwise.
