Priority Assessments;
1- Assess client joints or wound for color,swelling ,pain,decreased range of motion and drainage.
2-Record vital signs.
3-ask about skin rash and other adverse events of the medications.
priority Lab tests/ diagnostics;
1- X- rays
2-Radioisotopes bone scans
3- wound and blood culture studies
4- Level of C- reactive protein
5- MRI And CT- SCAN
Priority Interventions;
1- Relieving pain
2- improving physical mobility
3- prevent the client from infection.
Priority Actual or potential complications;
1- bone abscess (pus formation)
2-bone necrosis ( bone death)
3- spread of infection
4-inflammation of soft tissues (cellulitis)
5-chronic infection that doesn't respond well to treatment
Priority nursing Implications;
1- protect the affected extremity from further injury and pain by supporting the limb above and below the affected area.
2-prepare the client for surgical treatment, such as debridement ,bone grafting, amputation, as appropriate.
3- Administer prescribed medications which include opoid and non- opoid analgesics and antibiotics.
4-promote healing and tissue growth.
5- provide a diet high in protein ,vitamin C and D
Priority medications;
1- initial goal is to control the infection
2- Antibiotic therapy intravenous is given around the clock.
3- Antibiotic medication is administerd orally when infection appears to be controlled the medication regimen is continued for up to 3 months.
4-surgical debridement of bone is performed with irrigation .
Priority Education / discharge issue
1- advice the client to take medication as prescribed by the health care provider.
2- advice the client be careful not to injure the area where client have infection.
3-Use splint, sling or brace as prescribed by the health care provider.
4-Advice the client for follow - up care .
5- advice the client , to call heatlh care provider if you have any of the following;
Increasing pain ,redness, swelling or drainage in the infected area.
Fever 100.4 degree ferenhite or more
