Palliative care :

It is one of the approach, to provide care to the patients and family in order to improve the quality of life of the patient, the problems associated with life threatening illnesses or diseases.

But we can not cure the diseases here. We can provide only preventive and primitive and rehabilitative care.

Here we will focuses on the clients signs and symptoms and pain and stress to relief from them and improve quality of life of the client and family.

Policies related to the palliative care :

For example for end stage renal disease patient palliative care policies includes

* universal screening for palliative care needs, like to test for the creatinine levels and some other lab values, to know whether the dialysis is need or not.

Or to stop dialysis if not improve with that.

* train the nephrology work force to the people to deliver palliative care to the patients in the home itself.

Protocols related to palliative care :

* start the palliative care as soon as to the clients to improve quality of life.

* maintain records and reports what ever the care is providing.

* and analyse each eligible item of the care, whether it is good or not.

* avoid unnecessary investigations.

Proceedures related to palliative care :

* provide non invasive procedures like position changing to prevent bed sore.

* provide supportive system like providing psychological and emotional and spiritual support until death.

* implementation of advanced care planning in the residential areas, and palliative care referrals.
