1. Cultural Competency is the ability of health care providers to interact with patients who are different from themselves.

Utilized to better prepare the health care provider to recognize, understand, and manage sociocultural issues that happen in cultural encounters

# Three Components of Cultural Competency :-

Knowledge, Attitude, and Skill

Some of the effective strategies that health care workers must employ to promote diverse and all inclusive work environment are :-

- Review evidenced based literature on disparities that highlight racial, ethnic, and gender differences

- Use opportunities for continuing education to stay current on topics about different cultures

- Incorporating cultural competency during patient encounter

- Obtain as much information about the patient and their situation. Really listen to your patients

- Incorporating cultural competency during problem solving

- Learning about the cultural context helps in the thinking stage. It allows enhancement of understanding the complexity of the issue and how to help the patient

2. Professionalism is difficult to define ,consists of many behaviors and characteristics . It is the combination of all qualities that are connected with trained and skilled people .

Be committed to work

Recognize impact on patient care

Use objective approach to situations

See problems as opportunities for positive action

Develop and practice self-discipline

# Professionalism in SKILLS area:-

* Understand your work in depth, and know what your responsibilities are.

* Observe and listen carefully.

* Consult references; ask questions when in doubt.

* Perform all work neatly and accurately.

* Dedicate time to gaining new knowledge and skills.

# Professionalism in CONDUCT area:-

* Be dependable.

* Perform all duties as assigned and/or as needed.

* Be flexible.

* Accept differences and change.

* Treat everyone with courtesy and consideration.

# Professionalism in APPEARANCE area :-

* Practice personal cleanliness.

* Use deodorant daily.

* Pay attention to dental hygiene.

* Avoid use of strong-smelling perfumes and/or sprays.

* Avoid extremes in dress and grooming.
