The NIH wants to compare the mean weight loss for five different diets. They measure the weight loss (in pounds) of 5 men F25 assigned to each of the diets for one month. The resulting data set is below. Use this file: Assignment 9q3 data FOR R a) Which of the following is NOT an assumption that should be checked before performing an ANOVA? 1 Pounds Diet 1.7 0.7 0.8 0.6 0.1 1.2 1.6 1.5 . The average weight loss...
a) Discuss cultural considerations when discussing weight and weight loss with clients. b) What would you suggest to help someone achieve a healthy weight?
Two weight loss programs were compared to evaluate whether low fat or low carb diets work better to reduce weight. 12 women were randomly assigned to either the low fat program or the low carb program. After three months, the women’s weight loss in pounds was measured. The results for both groups of women is presented below: Low fat: 10 12 15 17 20 Low carb: 12 9 10 4 6 12 8 Conduct a two tailed test at alpha...
2. Researchers were interested in evaluating the effects of two low-fat diets with and without resistance exercise training (RT) on weight loss. The diets differed in the carbohydrate-to-protein ratio. A total 80 individuals with type 2 diabetes participated in the study. There were 40 men and 40 women and each group was randomly assigned to an isocaloric diet of either standard or high protein, with or without supervised resistance training (3 days/week) for 16 weeks. Body weight was measured before...
we modify data from a 2009 Journal of medicine study comparing various weight loss diets. Previous research had given conflicting conclusions about which was better. This study followed people for two years, longer than previous studies. Individuals were screened and randomly assigned to groups. We'll consider just one question: Whether the high protein was more succesful than the average protein diet. a) state appropriate null and alternative hypotheses in mathematical and everyday terms b) conduct an appropriate test and report...
With all the fad diets advertised on TV, a researcher wanted to know if there was a significant difference in weight loss depending on which new fad diet you were on. Over the course of 2 weeks, a total of 12 male volunteers who weighed the same and had similar lifestyles were broken up into 3 groups: Diet 1, Diet 2, and Diet 3. Conduct an ANOVA on the following table with alpha = 0.5 to determine if at least...
9. In a study of the effectiveness of weight-loss programs, 47 subjects who were at least 20% overweight took part in a group support program for 10 weeks. Private weighings determined each subject's weight at the beginning of the program and 6 months after the program's end. The paired I test was used to assess the significance of the average weight loss. The paper reporting the study said, "The subjects lost a significant amount of weight over time, R46-4.68, P0.01....
A weight loss company wanted to predict how much weight a client
would lose if they followed a prescribed exercise program in
addition to the company's diet program. Volunteers were randomly
divided into two groups, one group dieted but didn’t exercise, and
the other group dieted and followed the exercise program. For the
exercise group, they used linear regression with percent compliance
with the exercise program as the explanatory variable and pounds
lost in three months as the response variable....
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of a gather society and an agrarian society in regard to their reliance on plant materials. Do not just repeat what was discussed in class, think about some other possibilities as well (there are more I did not mention in class this week that will come up through the semester. Be sure to address BOTH the advantages and disadvantages for BOTH types of society. Note that an advantage to one group may not be a...

Two experimental diets, designed to add weight to malnourished adults in developing countries, are being tested. The following sample data for weight gain after 6-weeks on the diet (in kg) was obtained (assume normally distributed data): n = 8, mean = 5.80, S1 = 1.613 for Diet A and n2 = 9, mean = 7.27, S2 = 0.99 for Diet B. Suppose you decided to use the non-pooled t-test and present your results in a...
