Answer #1

Answer:

As per the given data, the female patient’s calculated BMI is as follows:

BMI= WEIGHT (In Kilograms)/ HEIGHT (In Meters)2

Weight is 200 lb

= 200/2.2 Kilograms = 90.90 kg                                         (since 1 lb = 2.2 kilograms)

Height is 5 feet 6 inches

= 1.676 meter                                                                    (since 1 feet = 0.305 meter)

BMI= 90.90/ (1.676)2 = 32.363

As per her BMI, the patient is obese and needs weight reduction. She is suffering from type 2 diabetes, in which glycemic control gets better with weight reduction due to better responsiveness of insulin on insulin receptor sites on cells.

Adjusted weight for obesity is (actual body weight- ideal body weight) *0.2- ideal body weight

= (200-130 lb) *0.2 – 130 lb

= 14.0+ 130 lb

= 144 lb

=144-2.2= 65.45 kg                                                     (since 1 lb = 2.2 kilograms)

A diabetic person without involvement of kidney needs about 1 gram per kilograms of body weight per day.

So the patient’s minimum protein requirement will be

= 65.45 * 1 grams

=65.45 grams per day
