Some of the ways to address the poor perineal hygiene without neglecting the child with parent are

  • Health educate about the benefits of perineal care
  • Inform that lack of perineal hygiene can lead to easy infection,tenderness, pain ,redness at perineal area
  • The post delivery episiotomy wound in a mother needs to be cleansed with water after pooing or peeing every time
  • Apply antimicrobial ointment (povidine) atleast twice a day which helps in faster healing and Infection prevention
  • Keep the are clean and dry
  • Encourage mother to use skin friendly cloth (cotton) to avoid irritation
  • Inform the mother to change the sanitary napkin
