There are couple of method to do manipulation of financial number – a) to exaggerate current period earnings on the Income statement with help artificially inflating revenue and gain or reduce expenses as well as provision to improve bottom line

Revenue number and treatment mis representation like – recording revenue prior to product shipment , recording revenue prior to completing all services , some time recorded fictitious revenue , increase revenue with some ONE TIME abnormal gain . Also improperly reducing liability and not making enough provision in the account .

As an accountant , basic duty is to protect financial from fraud , manipulation and provide investor correct financial number with proper health analysis . Accountant normally do following practice :

1. Educate management – Which is most important tool “ Finance for Non Manager “ and established awareness about financial fraud   
2. Established solid Internal control system – segregation of duties
3. Established a string control environment – established ethical behavior among management . To avoid financial manipulation , accountant has to establish proper written accounting policy .
