Answer #1

Dose of drug administered = 500 mg

Maximum drug plasma concentration = 5.916 mg/L

Volume of distribution = Dose/Plasma concentration

=500/5.916 = 84.52 L

= 84.52/86.5 =0.98 L/kg

Azithromycin is sometimes prescribed for community acquired pneumonia as 500 mg PO on day 1 then 250 mg PO on days 2-5. You are asked to evaluate the possible maximal lung concentration of azithromycin after the final dose according to these dosing instructions in a male patient who weighs 158 lb. A report in the literature stated that azithromycin lung concentrations are 1030% of azithromycin blood concentrations. Assume azithromycin has an elimination half-life of 53 hr, an absorption half-life of...

    1. A new drug was given in a single intravenous dose of 200 mg to an 80- kg adult male patient. The apparent VD is 0.8 L/kg, and the drug is eliminated by 1st order kinetics. Compute the initial drug plasma concentration. 2. A drug has an elimination half-life of 4 hours and follows first-order kinetics. #1) While reviewing medication orders in a hospital, you encounter an order for tobramycin, an antibiotic, to be administered as intermittent intravenous infusions. Checking this order, you identify the following information: - The patient weighs 266 lbs - The physician ordered 5.2 mg/kg/day given in 6 divided doses - Each dose should be administered as an intermittent intravenous infusion - Each infusion should last 30 minutes - The technician has prepared a 150 mL small volume parenteral bag containing 9...

An adult male (73 years old, 65 kg) with diabetes mellitus is placed on hemodialysis. His residual creatinine clearance is <5mL/min. The patient is given tobramycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, at a dose, at a dose of 1 mg/kg by IV bolus injection. Tobramycin is 90% excreted unchanged in the urine, is less than 10% to plasma protein, and has elimination half-life 2.2 hours in patient with normal renal function. In this patient, tobramycin has an elimination t1/2 of 50hours during...

A drug is eliminated by renal excretion and liver metabolism. The drug has an oral bioavailabilty of 0.9. Following a 100 mg oral dose administration, the total amount of drug recovered in urine was 60 mg. The half-life of this drug is 3.3 hours and its volume of distribution is 10 L. Calculate the total clearance, renal clearance and the constant of renal excretion (Kr) for this drug.

    7. Smokers are known to have about 50% higher CL than nonsmokers for theophylline. If the average observed AUC after administration of 300 mg IV theophylline in nonsmokers is 100 mg.hr/L, what is the expected AUC in smokers after administration of the same 300 mg dose? Theophylline undergoes linear pharmacokinetics 2.
