1.Teamwork is very important in emergency department:

Patient safety or care is the top priority in nursing For better health care to patients,nurses must communicate with relevant professionals about their treatment plan while also understand the role of each assigned team member in emergency department. Nurse serves as a bridge between doctors,patients and the hospital.Team work and collaboration play a crucial role in the emergency department.

Principles of team work in emergency department:

Establish team goals in emergency department:

  • Health care goals can include improving patient care,shortening response times and decrease waste.
  • Every team member should focus on objective of work,which helps create team unity and provide space to feedback.
  • Without common setting every individual may have different outcomes in mind which can hinder progress.

Assign roles with in a team in emergency:

  • Nurse will interact with a large number of health care professionals with in a own team and across all department.
  • If clear roles are not assigned with in team,team members may duplicate efforts in some areas while leaving gaps in other.This not only waste time but also harm to the patient in emergency department.
  • Every team member understand their role and expectations to achieve their goal i.e., to save patient.

Allow for open communication with other team members:

  • Nurses interact with other members in a team they must develop listening skills.Those working along side nurses may have individual feedback,suggestions on their treatment.
  • According to Wolters Kluwer,the professional solution provider, that breaks in health care communication can happen based on various reasons:When team members transferred to other department during shift changes or through poor communication with patient or with doctors.

Promote Mutual Respect:

  • In health care setting mutual respect is critical,not just with in team nut also in emergency conditions.
  • If team members are not feeling respected can become defensive,lack of engagement and worse.
  • By building respect team members can focus on their goal.

Be an effective leaders in team:

  • The nurse in health care is filled with leadership roles and taking charge of their teamwork.
  • Quality leader must be flexible and help their team members in emergency department

2.Role of registered nurse in emergency department:

  • Emergency nurse generally work in emergency department in hospital,caring for patients who are in urgent for medical attention.
  • They can be wide range of situations that they will need to know to treat injuries to gastrointestinal and cardiovascular issues. For example,if patient may come in suffering from burns,the next patient may come in having allergy or asthma attack.Nurse in emergency department work on their feet all day.
  • The role of nurse in emergency department is to treat conditions like pains,broken bones,wounds and other immediately life threatening conditions.

Duties of nurse in emergency department:

  • Nurses need to assess a patient health and also detect signs and symptoms,pain and they will need to know when action is necessary.
  • Nurses should be sympathetic to a patient needs and able to deal with other people in various states of pain,trauma and tragedy.
  • Nurses can help doctors to operate,administer medication and work with specific treatment.
  • Nurses will face multiple patients with different needs and with various risks. They should have organization skills.
  • Nurses should be calm under pressure such as death situations and nurses being able to function in the heat of emergency will be necessary.
  • Nurses will communicate directly with patients who are scared or in shock.Listening is the better skill for nurses and good communicators will help keep everyone calm and to understand their situation.

3.Role of Registered nurse in documentation in emergency department:

  • Documentation will serve clinical and non clinical function in every health care setting.Documentation will provide better patient care and reflect the specific facts,procedures and care that occurred.
  • Documentation will serves as the primary defense for litigation be pursued.
  • Health care professional view documentation as a burden and consider as task of low priority because it takes from time with the patients.
  • It is crucial to communicate and take decision to meet their patient needs.Medical records can lead to chain of deadly treatment decision.
  • Documentation of emergency cases by nurse will support the ability of the health care team to ensure informed decision and provide high quality care in patient care in Assessment,Clinical problem,Communication with other health care professional regarding the patient disease condition,Medical records,Treatment plan,Patient monitoring parameters,Treatment outcomes
  • Documentation will help legally that is clinical reports provide and support patient care are important in legal matters.
  • Documentation that is incomplete,illegal that will mislead the undesirable outcome including: Jeopardizing the legal rights and defense of both patients and health care provider.
  • Nurse should protect the documentation system,paper or electronic based in order to provide the following as prescribed by hospital policies and procedures.
  • Nurse should secure the patient information highly confidential.
