How do the three complement pathways activate the complement system?
The complement system activates via three important pathways such as
a. Classical pathway
b. Alternative pathway
c. Lectin pathway
The classical pathway occurs through the antigen-antibody formation. When the antigen Ciq binds, the antibody activates the C1r and C1s of the complement system. This leads to cleavage of C3 and C4. The process of opsonization takes place to enhance the process of immunity against the specific pathogen.
In an alternative pathway, when the antigen binds, the C3 molecules become activates C3a and C3b. It leads to cleavage of C3 and convertase of C5.
Lectin pathway activates through C4 and C2 which stimulates the protein of the complement system. The proteases of C1r and C1s cleaves the C4 and C2 forming C3 convertase.

4. Why are there THREE complement pathways i.e. if classical was absent, how would that affect the innate immune response, if alternative was absent, how would that affect the innate immune response, etc?
for the three pathways for complement activation (alternative, lectin, and classical), which pathway is the least efficient at clearing invading bacteria? for C3 cleavage and amplification cascade, what goes in and what comes out?
How do catabolic pathways intersect with anabolic pathways?
You have generated three different strains of mice each strain completely missing the complement protein indicated in the table below, Predict the effect of each missing protein on the event indicated in the 1 column of the table. Fill in the table (each box labeled 1-9) with one of the following symbols: (12 pts.) NE = no effect on the event because none of the complement pathways are blocked D = event will be decreased. but not eliminated because some,...

Predict the effects on a patient if the levels of opsonin change o identify the cells that produce complement proteins o Indicate where complement proteins are located in a healthy person o Indicate the type of enzyme needed to activate complement proteins o Indicate the three different ways to activate complement system and the ultimate result of those pathways. (Is it different? Or the same?) o Draw a simple graph to demonstrate the difference in levels between C3, C3a and...
