Answer #1

The complement system activates via three important pathways such as

a. Classical pathway

b. Alternative pathway

c. Lectin pathway

The classical pathway occurs through the antigen-antibody formation. When the antigen Ciq binds, the antibody activates the C1r and C1s of the complement system. This leads to cleavage of C3 and C4. The process of opsonization takes place to enhance the process of immunity against the specific pathogen.

In an alternative pathway, when the antigen binds, the C3 molecules become activates C3a and C3b. It leads to cleavage of C3 and convertase of C5.

Lectin pathway activates through C4 and C2 which stimulates the protein of the complement system. The proteases of C1r and C1s cleaves the C4 and C2 forming C3 convertase.
