Chain of infection
chain of infection is the series of events has to happen to enable pathogens, this referes to bacteria, virus and fung to cause infection in a person or there orhanisms. If we break any link of the chain, we can stop arising infection.
Organisms
Our earth is a huge reservoir of microorganisms including pathogenic and useful organisms for the mankind. These include bacteria, virus, fungi protozoans, parasites, bacteriophage etc.
Reservoir
Source of infection. Mainly the air, a huge source of microorganisms including infectious and non infectious. Other reservoirs are: Soil, water, an infected person itself is a reservoir
Portal of Exit
It is the path by which a pathogen leaves it's host. The portal of exit usually cirrespinds to the site where the pathogen is localised. eg, Mycobacterium tuberculosis exits through respiratory tract, whereas polio virus through fecal route.
Transmission
An infectious agent may be transmitted from its natural reservoir to a susceptible host in different ways. They are:
Direct contact- skin to skin contact, kissing and sexual intercourseDroplet spread- refers to spray with relatively large, Short range aerosols produced by sneezing coughing or evening talking
Portal of entry
Manner in which a pathogen enters a susceptibility host. The entry must provide access to tissue in which the pathogens can multiply or exert toxin in host body. Portal of entry includes skin breakdown, mucous membrane, blood etc.
Vulnerable host
Final link of the chain of infections is a susceptible host. Susceptibility of host depends many factors such as immunity, genetic or constitutional factors. Eg. Person with sickle cell anemia has a natural resistance to malarial pathogens. And also good immunisation status also individual from infections. Some natural defence mechanisms like skin, mucous membrane, acidic character of gastric juice etc prevents easy entry of pathogens. Some negative factors like malnutrition, underlying diseases, lack of sanitation increases the risk of getting infections.
Measures to break the chain
If any of these link can be broken, the development of infection will be halt.
Chain of infection Create your own case study scenario with labeled diagram based of your story?
Create a use case diagram based on this sequence diagram. Assume (for the purpose of this Question 1.i only) that our task is to implement the AMS. [8 marks] Create a component diagram at type level, consistent with the sequence diagram. [12 marks] Detail the interfaces of the components as UML interfaces, including full operation signatures. [15 marks] Describe effect of the invocation true = checkln(card, reader) using textual pre and post conditions and a visual contract based on the...
A case study based on your disease: Hemophilia B. Please create a case with ALL the important information regarding your patient, diagnosis tests, lab values, presenting signs and symptoms, anything you might find in a chart for a patient with this disease. Create a name for your patient.
You will create your own silly story based on information provided by the user. For example, the parts in bold were entered by the user. For ideas see: Mad Libs. My Silly Story name: Frank Zhang whole number: 345 body part: stomach noun: cup floating point number: 1.23 clothing article: hat destination: Colorado goal: degree The resulting story is: Congratulations! Today is your 345 day. You're off to Colorado! You're off and away! You have brains in your stomach, You...
In your own words please and provide the link. Find a case study report on pediatric cutaneous amebiasis. What was surprising about the study? What other infection can be confused with cutaneous amebiasis? What new information did you find in the study?
1. Study the chain of infection, and in what place(s) do you think it might be the easiest to break the chain of infection? Please provide reasons to support your assertions. 2. If you are a patient in the hospital, what makes it more likely that you might contract a disease? 3. What are the responsibilities of the health care providers to prevent you from contracting a disease in the hospital?
CASE STUDIES 1. Read the following scenario and answer the questions based on your knowledge of classification of surgical wounds. You are scheduled for trauma call, and you get called in for a patient who was performing in a rodeo. He fell off his horse and is being admitted for an open frac- ture of the femur. a. How would this case be classified? b. What is this patient's risk for infection? c. If the wound was not open and...
Orientation to Case Based Experiences. Must be your own work in your own words. 1. In your own words, define moulage in case based experiences. 2. Explain the purpose of the prebrief. 3. What is a task trainer? 4. Define the term simulation fidelity? 5. What can you as the learner do to increase simulation 6. Define the term debrief and how it will be used in Case Based Experiences?
Please read the following scenario and then create the deliverable listed below, 1) Use case diagram 2) Interaction diagram 3) Create the core and supporting classes of the RIM (Entity, Role, Role Relationship, Participation, Act, Act Relationship) similar to the one in slide 20 in the live session Note: Copy the MS VISIO diagrams and paste them onto a word document and then submit only one word file to the assignment submission link. Scenario Mrs. Annie Nuclear showed symptoms such...
Design your own original study! that is, create a scenario that includes an independent and dependent variable as well as a confound variable. You can see the document (above) from your individual assignment for an example of what this should look like. example Scenario D. A researcher is interested in comparing different treatments for anxiety. She assigns participants to one of three groups. Group one will take a new anti-anxiety mediation, Group two will participate in cognitive behavioral therapy for...
