Orthostatic Vital signs- Its a diagnostic tool for Orthostatic Hypotension.
Orthostatic Hypotension- blood pressure of a patient suddenly drops, when a patient stands from a sitting or lying position, it also known as Postural hypotension.
Steps of taking OVS-
- During performing OVS we monitor BP and Heart rate in three different positions in an interval of one minute.
- We have to measure OVS in Supine position and in Standing position in the same hand.
- When we first start the patient need to lay down in the supine position for 2 to 3 minutes prior to check blood pressure and heart rate.
- then the patient needs to stand, takes the BP and Heart rate in the same hand and use the same measuring device.
- See patient safety for OH patients in standing position, the patient may fall down.
- A positive test is Decrease of Systolic BP 20 mm Hg, Rise in diastolic pressure 10mm Hg, and rise in heart rate by 20 beats for a minute in standing position.
