Mrs. Jones is a 93 yr. old, right-handed woman who had a stroke. This left her with little use of the right side of her body. It also affected her gag reflex and has difficulty swallowing. She has a hard time moving around, thus she spends a lot of her time lying down. What activities of daily living would be most difficult for Ms. Wilson? How could you assist while maintaining her dignity?

- Maintain patient dignity by ensuring they remain covered while providing care. When giving a bath, keep the patient covered with a blanket or towel, uncovering only the section of the body you are currently washing.

- Use an enuresis pad to maintain dignity despite incontinence.
- Look at what people are wearing and how it affects their dignity.
- Use 'Do not disturb' signs to respect people's privacy.
• Provide single sex facilities.
• Introduce an action plan to improve privacy and dignity.
