We reviewed this interesting and important topic last Tuesday in our lab hours: Vital Signs. I wanted to start a "free discussion" about the new classification in the 2017 guidelines for hypertension because of the relevance of this topic for us as a nurses. I attached the guidelines to this activity for you to review. I want to get your impressions about what you learn on your personal study! I made a summary of the most important points for you to remember?

According to the new guidelines many points have changed related to stages as well as numbers are following:-

* Pre hypertension stage has removed from the stages

*Normal BP:- systolic (upper reading) less than 120mmHg and diastolic (lower ready ) less than 80mmHg.

* Elevated::- Systolic between 120-129mmHg and diastolic less than 80mmHg

* Stage 1:- Systolic between 130-139mmHg and diastolic between 80-89 mmHg

*Stage 2:-Systolic at least 140mmHg and diastolic at least 90 mmHg .

*Hypertensive crisis:- Systolic over 180mmHg and diastolic over 120 mmHg .

* Emphasis on proper technique to measure blood pressure .

* Educate the people to use properly of BP apparatus and also give training about white coat hypertension which is caused by the stress to see healthcare .

*In hypertensive crisis patients needs prompt changes in medication if there is no other indications of problems,or immediately hospitalised.

*In stage1 medication is only prescribing if a patient has already had major diseases such as Heart attack,DM,kidney disease.
